Goats Kidding

One of my favorite things about living on the farm is baby goats! They are so cute and cuddly and they bounce everywhere! Our 4 does were all pregnant, but, as is normal with goats, we weren’t really sure when they would kid.

We had pre-treated them with the recommended minerals a few weeks ago, just to make sure that things went as well as possible. I went out to do a second treatment one morning and there stood my girl Midnight with two little babies. The look on her face was “Where did these things come from?” Meet Day and Night:

Later that afternoon, I noticed that Miss Bonnie had a balloon dragging around behind her, so I went back out to the pen. Turns out that balloon was the leftovers from her giving birth to Hudson, or Huddy as we call her.

Miss Belle, Bonnie’s twin, waited until the next day to drop Patch. I must be clueless because I walked into the goat pen to check on everyone else’s babies, turned my back on Belle for a second and turned around to a fully born baby! She didn’t make a sound!

We are waiting on our 4th doe to drop her baby or babies. We know it took the sire a bit longer to breed her because he was smaller, but we did see them breed several times, so we are just waiting for the results. Sandy, the last doe, has been showing labor signs for several days, so it’s just a matter of time. I had waited to publish this post because I wanted to include pictures of her babies, too. I guess I’ll just have to give Sandy her own Mommy and me post when it happens!
