Some of you may remember that I purchased vanilla beans from Penzeys Spices a couple of weeks ago. Wayne was running errands in town today and remembered that I wanted to make homemade vanilla, so he stopped by the liquor store and got some vodka for me. Gotta love a man who remembers things that you forgot you needed!
I’ve seen recipes that require from 2 to 23 vanilla beans for a 1.75 L bottle of vodka, which is the size we purchased. I decided that I will use the 3 I bought from Penzeys and just put the bottle into a back corner of the cupboard. I have other bottles going and don’t use tons of vanilla, but I can pour it into mason jars and give it as gifts around Christmas time, so it won’t go to waste. My foodie friends and kids will love it!
Bonus: I need some head space at the top of the vodka bottle, so I’ll pour a nice toddy for Wayne as a thank you for remembering what I needed today!
